In order to practice taking the bus here,
we went as a group with our language facilitator to Diriamba on Thursday the
14th. A town about 40 minutes away. It definitely felt like a city to us.
According to the guide book, 35,000 people live there, which makes it a
happening place from our perspective. Our village has maybe 2000. After learning how the bus works, and luckily
for us it was practically empty so we had seats the whole time, and seeing
where our meeting would be the next day we walked around the town. I am posting
a picture of me with my site mates and a picture of a large church in Diriamba.
We went to a few ice cream stores to check
prices. It’s amazing how expensive things are once you leave our small town. We
don’t even have a place to buy the name brand ice cream. It costs 14 cordobas
for 1 scoop! Which is about 60 cents in US but it’s a lot of money when you can
buy ice cream in a bag for 4 cents or a scoop of sorbetto for about 23 cents.
While in the ice cream store we saw some other aspirantes who were celebrating
one of their birthdays. It was great to see them since we hadn’t seen anyone
besides our site mates, host families and language facilitators since Saturday
morning. We caught up about our host families and living situations. Everyone
seemed pleased with their current situation.
